The Algonquin’s Explorers Hotel: Quick Overview
The hotel, formerly owned by the Thomas Cook group, was built in 2002. Of the three properties belonging to the Fabulous Group, the Explorers is the most affordable and family-friendly.
This 3-star hotel has 390 rooms and offers rooms that can accommodate up to 10 people. At Disneyland Paris, the Explorers’ accommodation is one of a kind. It’s the only place where you can enjoy an all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet and access to the water park. But that’s not all — everything in this hotel has been designed with families in mind.
Pirate Hotel rooms and suites
If you’d like to set sail near Disneyland Paris, the Explorers Hotel offers 390 family rooms that are decorated with an explorer theme. In addition to its standard rooms, the hotel offers two categories of superior room.
If you’d like to set sail near Disneyland Paris, the Explorers Hotel offers 390 family rooms that are decorated with an explorer theme. In addition to its standard rooms, the hotel offers two categories of superior room.
Family rooms:
Standard Family Rooms (sleeps 4–10): Small and large families can stay in connecting rooms. Children can sleep in single or bunk beds. The largest room, which accommodates up to 10 people, even includes two bathrooms.
Adapted rooms (up to four people): These rooms are close to all hotel services and reception and have been designed for people with reduced mobility. They feature double beds, a sofa and an adapted bathroom.
Executive rooms (for two people): These rooms are designed for couples and business travellers. Unlike the family rooms, they include superior amenities such as a mini-fridge, a desk, a lounge area and a sofa.
Themed Suites
In addition to classic rooms offering water park access, the Explorers Hotel now offers immersive suites, which are twice the size of family rooms.
Four new suites have replaced the former Knight, Princess, Jungle, Planet Hollywood and Sweet suites. These four suites are available on-site at a starting rate of €265.50 per night.
The Sea Life Paris Suite: Dive into the depths of the ocean and explore the underwater world in a suite created in collaboration with Sea Life Val d’Europe.
The Pirate Suite: I love this suite! In my opinion, it’s the most beautiful and immersive. It even seems to hide treasures and mysteries… It features a master bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a sofa bed and a bedroom with bunk beds.
The Candy Suite: If you love pink and sweets, you won’t be disappointed with the Candy Suite!
The Knight and Princess Suite: This suite can accommodate up to six princesses and princes. It also contains three living areas.

Catering at the Explorers Hotel
Exploring new worlds makes you hungry. The Explorers offers a wide selection of dining options. These range from snacks to buffets to table service.
Free breakfast at the Explorers
Let’s start with the advantages! First of all, breakfast is included with all reservations. This is a huge plus, especially for large families, and it is something that should not be overlooked. The buffet offers a wide selection of sweet and savoury items. It also has an English breakfast station with traditional beans in tomato sauce, grilled bacon and scrambled eggs.
Breakfast buffet at the Explorers
One of the cons is the noise. If you find yourself nostalgic for the ambience of a school cafeteria, you are sure to be enchanted! The main dining room can be very noisy, especially when it’s busy. I recommend taking your own tray and eating outside near the atoll. It’s a much more pleasant and immersive setting.
The Captain’s Library restaurant
Captain Sir Archibald welcomes you to his library for a family dinner. This is the hotel’s only restaurant where you can order your food directly to your table. The menu offers a wide selection of starters, main courses and desserts to suit all tastes. There’s something for everyone on the menu, which includes a mixed platter of appetisers, runny Camembert, grilled rib-eye steak and, of course, the Pirate’s Cheeseburger. However, it should be noted that the prices are quite high for a restaurant in a three-star hotel. According to the reviews on Tripadvisor, opinions are mixed on the quality of the food and service.

La Plantation : all-you-can-eat Buffet Restaurant
The restaurant’s all-you-can-eat buffet is sure to delight both big eaters and foodies who like to try everything.
Buffets always offer a wide selection of starters, main courses with fish and meat, as well as vegetables, cheeses, and, of course, desserts. The price for the all-you-can-eat buffet is €28 per adult and €14 per child. However, a discount applies to any reservation made at the same time as a room booking.

Marco’s Pizza Parlor
You can order a pizza. You can enjoy it in your room or on-site. The on-site option has a view of the aquapark. This is a definite plus. You might not eat the best pizza of your life here, but who doesn’t love pizza?
The cheapest pizza is the Margherita at €12, while the most expensive is €16. The chef also offers baked lasagne and a few side dishes. It won’t be the best pizza you’ve ever eaten, but you can enjoy a quick snack while the kids play!

The Snack Point Gourmand
If the kids get hungry after spending hours splashing around in the Aquapark or playing on the pirate ship, the Snack Point Gourmand is just the place to visit. With crepes, cookies and muffins on offer, it’s perfect for a sweet snack.
The Trader’s Bar
Exploring the world makes you thirsty! Whether you’re after a quick drink after dinner or a beer to accompany your aperitif, the Trader’s Bar offers a wide variety of reasonably priced beverages. Alcoholic cocktails such as the traditional mojito start at €9.
Activities at the Explorers
The indoor Water Park is the flagship resort of the Explorers and is probably one of the main reasons why families choose to stay there. However, it’s not the only activity that the resort offers.
Water Playground
The Explorers Hotel water park is by far the most impressive of all the Disneyland Paris hotels with a pool. Few hotels in the Marne-la-Vallée area can boast such a well-themed indoor water park. Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch and the Village Nature certainly have enormous pools, but they’re clearly not in the same league.
However, the Aqualagon and its pirate ship are so popular that they regularly fill up. You shouldn’t be someone who is easily offended by loud noises! The issue of overcrowding also makes it challenging to arrange for young children to be in the same place as older children. With no separate area for younger children, everyone’s in the same boat!
Lastly, if your room is close to the water park, you’ll have to deal with constant comings and goings in the hallway, plus noise from the park. In short, there are advantages, but also some disadvantages.
Beware of annual maintenance!
Warning! Before booking your stay at Explorers, make sure you check that the Aqualagon is open. It closes once a year for maintenance.
10 Cinema
This additional activity is both original and surprising!
A hotel with a 10D interactive cinema! This small, dynamic cinema, equipped with interactive seats, invites you to challenge yourself in a multi-sensory adventure that combines light, smells, 3D, sound effects and realistic effects (cold, heat and wind).
This experience will cost you €6 per person, even though it is only a few minutes long. That’s expensive for a family.
However, if you haven’t had your fill of attractions at Disneyland Paris yet, be sure to try the XD Dark Ride cinema.
Indoor and outdoor play areas
Indoor and outdoor play areas
The hotel offers three play areas for young children. First, there’s the Seven Seas Wreck, located near the Aqualagon. This is a convenient play area for parents who want to enjoy a drink at the bar while keeping an eye on their children. Another favourite with young explorers is Scally Wagg’s Jungle Adventure, an indoor play area with a slide, ball pit and obstacles.
Outdoors, little ones can play on a lifelike pirate ship. There is also Pirate Island, a slightly larger children’s play area with the tallest structure standing at seven metres high.

Location and venue (70% positive reviews): Reviews of the location of the Explorers Hotel focus primarily on its ideal proximity to Disneyland Paris and the efficiency of its complimentary shuttle service, ensuring a seamless and enjoyable experience for guests visiting the park.
The cons 👎
I analysed and summarised over 7,000 reviews written by guests of the hotel. The main sources of criticism about this establishment are as follows:
The bathroom (75% negative reviews): Several travellers reported poor ventilation, which can lead to dampness or mould. This can be a particular drawback for longer stays. Overall, criticism focused on the bathroom’s age, cleanliness and equipment.
The rooms (69% negative reviews): There were many and varied reviews of the rooms. The main reasons for dissatisfaction were cleanliness, general condition, soundproofing and equipment. Rooms were often described as outdated and in need of renovation. Lack of cleanliness was also a recurring criticism. Another weak point was the soundproofing in the rooms. Guests complained about easily hearing noise from neighbouring rooms, the hallway, or even outside, which affected their sleep quality.
Air conditioning received 89% negative reviews. Many guests were disappointed to discover that family rooms did not have air conditioning. Only suites have it. This is a problem in both winter and summer.

Notre avis en bref sur l’Explorers Hotel
My review
Location : 4 / 5
It’s difficult to find a partner hotel that’s closer to the Disneyland Paris resort than this one! Thanks to the free shuttle, getting to the Explorers Hotel from the TGV train station is very simple and relatively quick. However, you shouldn’t be afraid of crowds, given how many people use the shuttle!
Rooms : 2 / 5
This is the hotel’s biggest downside! People do not all approve of the family rooms, especially when it comes to cleanliness and comfort. We experienced this first-hand during our stay in January 2023. It was a disaster. My advice would be that if you ever find yourself in an unsuitable room, don’t hesitate to complain to reception and ask for a cleaner and/or quieter room.
Food : 2.5 / 5
The former Algonquin’s Explorer Hotel is all about quantity, not quality. While the pizzeria has received fairly good reviews, the standard of the other dining options remains disappointing. Although breakfast is complimentary, the quality and variety of the buffet does not live up to the hotel’s reputation. In fact, charging extra for an English breakfast is borderline unacceptable.
Activities : 5 / 5
The range of activities on offer at this establishment is astounding. You’ll never be bored here! No other hotel near Disneyland Paris can compete in this respect!
What I really think about the Explorers Hotel
Yes, the Explorers Hotel is popular with pirates and children alike! However, it’s best avoided if you’re travelling without children. If you’re looking for somewhere more upscale and quiet, and you want to be near Disney, I highly recommend the Radisson Blu Marne-la-Vallée. You’ll get significantly better quality accommodation for a similar price.
